Aerating compost is vital to improve productivity and develop the microbial activity in the compost.

There are a number of methods available to those interested in aerating their compost.

A simple garden fork can get the job done with a bit of hard work and effort.

For those who don't have the strength to turn their compost so easily, then a hand compost aerator may be another option.

These aerators are easy to use and don't require much strength.

Simply open the lid of the compost bin and drop the bottom of the aerator inside. Turn the handle, and the aerator will penetrate the compost. After the aerator is half covered with compost, raise the aerator. This will turn over compost.

Do this process in several places in the compost bin each day to maximise results.
